A Message from The Claims Interest Group Chairman
Dear Society and Interest Group Members:
Message from the Chair
It is with great sadness that I must notify my fellow CPCU’s of the loss of a true friend and industry professional. Brian Marx CPCU passed away on March 4, 2010 after suffering a heart attack. His death was a shock to us all as he was known for his dedication to fitness and good health. Brian was an employee of Chubb Insurance and served as a longtime member of the CPCU Claims Interest Group Committee. Most notably was Brian’s contribution to the Claims Quorum as the writer of many articles on a variety of technical subjects. In addition to his industry involvement, Brian was an active volunteer of the New Jersey Special Olympics. Brian was a man of character who will truly be missed.
As a part of the Claims IG’s succession planning efforts, Charles Stoll was appointed to the newly created role of Assistant Editor. During 2010, Charles will be working with current Editor Marcia Sweeney and will assume the role of CQ Editor in October 2010.
Our webinar subcommittee has an exciting schedule of presentations planned for our members in 2010. Be looking for the following:

July 14, 2010 – Correct Methodology Defending TBI Cases
September 15, 2010 – Premises Security
As indicated in the previous CQ, the Claims IG was awarded “Gold with Distinction” for our Circle of Excellence submission. The recognition was a result of the contributions by our members from across the country. I encourage you to go to our website and record any activity that you have been involved in since June 2009. Our COE subcommittee will compile the information and incorporate it into our 2010 COE submission.
We will be conducting our Claims IG committee Mid Year Meeting in Phoenix AZ. April 29 – May 2 in conjunction with the National Leadership Institute (NLI). If you are planning to attend the NLI, you are welcome to drop in at the committee Mid Year meeting.
