A Message from The Claims Interest Group Chairman
Dear Society and Interest Group Members:
Message from the Chair
As the summer begins to heat up around the country, I find myself busier than ever and can’t help but wonder where the time is going. I’m reminded of the Kenny Chesney song “Don’t Blink”.
So I've been trying to slow it down
I've been trying to take it in
In this 'here today, gone tomorrow' world we're living in
So don't blink, 'cause just like that you're six years old
And you take a nap
And you wake up and you're twenty-five
And your high school sweetheart becomes your wife
In speaking with my friends around the country, I know we are all under the same pressures to do more with less and as a result we are spending more time focused on our job responsibilities.
I encourage each of you to keep balance in your life and “Don’t Blink”.
Since the annual meeting in Denver, the Claims Interest Group committee has been hard at work providing educational, informational, and networking opportunities for our membership. Those opportunities include the publication of the CQ, conducting webinars, maintaining a website, developing the LinkedIn networking sight, and finalizing the workshops that are to be presented at the 2010 Annual Meeting in Orlando.
In review of the agenda for the Orlando meeting, the Society has put together another educational and informational program that I believe you will find of value. The Claims IG will sponsor a workshop titled “Write makes Might” which addresses effective communication throughout claims process. In addition we are co sponsoring with Loss Control a workshop titled “Have we really skinned the CAT?” which will address issues associated with catastrophe claims and “Commercial Property Conundrums” co sponsored with the Risk Management IG and the Underwriting IG. Also at the annual meeting, we have the Claims IG Box Lunch scheduled on September 26th where the theme of the meeting is “How to get more for your Defense Buck”. ISO has generously agreed to sponsor the event and provide some great door prizes to be given away at the Box Lunch. If you are planning to attend the Annual Meeting, I recommend you sign up for the Box Lunch and take advantage of this educational and networking opportunity. Who knows, maybe you will come away with an IPAD!
Since I began my participation on the Claims IG committee in 2000, one constant is the quality of our newsletter. This publication has consistently provided value to our membership. In this edition we have an article authored by New Designee, Joseph Badowski with Harleysville Insurance. I commend Joseph for getting involved with the Society upon receiving his designation. In September, long time editor Marcia Sweeney will be stepping down and turning over the reins to Chuck Stoll. Marcie has become a role model and resource to other IG newsletter editors and she will truly be missed. I look forward to working with Chuck as he has demonstrated a commitment and passion to maintaining the quality and quantity of our publication. The CQ committee is seeking articles and potential authors for future publications. If you would like to submit an article or know of an author please contact Chuck Stoll.
As you can see, the Claims IG committee members have been dedicated to the goal of providing value to our membership. As the Claims IG Chair, I believe that many hands make for light work and strive to maintain balance in all we do. Remember “Don’t Blink”
Sincerely,
Tony Nix, CPCU
